Music of the world 007: Going to dark places with Chris Wirsig’s instrumental music

We have had times where we delve in dark moments in life leaving us in a trance taking us to the darkest place. A dark place which sucks your mind and body with such force, making it difficult to get out. We have also gone through times where we are stuck with images of our dreams and nightmares haunting us. We know it’s not real but it felt so real leaving us gripping with fear, with a state of restlessness and confusion. And I identify such moments expressed by the instrumental music collection “13 Crystal Skulls” of Chris Wirsig. Listening to his music, even having a good cry out and dealing with the darkness may be a good way to wake up from the trance and walk out of that phase.

Composer Chris Wirsig found inspiration in the mystery of the 13 Crystal Skulls that have been captivating people’s imagination for over 100 years, from Indiana Jones to conspiracy theorists. With this in mind he created 13 instrumental songs, delving into mysterious atmospheres and dark places. I like all the numbers in the collection but my favorite is “Overture” and “The Shaman’s Lore”

And on the other hand, it is people like Chris Wirsig which gives a movie or a video game a life synching you with the ambience with the background instrumental music.

His latest works can be seen in the short mystery movie “20 Matches”.

His latest works include music for the acclaimed Top Ten iPad game “Alien Tribe 2”

S03E01 FindingTheVoices: Conquering Mount Everest at the age of 16, an interview with Nameirakpam Chingkheinganba from Manipur.
Guest Speaker : Nameirakpam Chingkheinganba
Language: Interview in Meteilon
Location: Imphal, Manipur, India

Determined to achieve his father’s long lost dream of conquering Mount Everest in 1983, a young boy from Patsoi, Manipur took charge and scaled the mountain giant to stand high and mighty on top of the highest peak on the planet. At the age of 16, Nameirakpam Chingkheinganba went on the first ever North-East India Mount Everest Expedition in 2013 and took upon the 75 days long expedition risking his life and testing his will power and courage to show that anybody can overcome even the most challenging obstacles in life if they have the right attitude and positive mentality.
Chingkheinganba began training at the age of 9 and started developing his skills by first climbing hills of lesser height and then slowly adding on more in the course. He took on his first Adventure Course at Manipur Mountaineering Institute, Lamdang. After completing the course, Chingkheinganba got fueled with downright motivation upon finding out that his father once had a dream of climbing Mount Everest.
In this interview, Chingkheinganba talks about how a Mount Everest expedition takes place and the numerous challenges and life threatening risks a mountaineer faces during the mission. He tells the story of how he successfully completed the journey carrying limited food and oxygen and how he dealt with the dangerous depths, avalanches, crevasses and unnerving situations in the icy mountains. He also talks about the shocking count of lifeless bodies they came across lying on the frozen grounds in the Dead Zone!
Apart from mountaineering, Chingkheinganba also has other passions and future goals. He’s currently studying in Imphal College and wants to pursue further studies in Geography. And right now, you can imagine him riding his mountain bike day-in, day-out, and training very hard to realize his dream of becoming an Olympian in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Season 3 of FindingTheVoices about Manipur highlighting Inspiration, Education, Empowerment and Entertainment.

Location: New York, USA.
Styles: Blues/Global SoulAlbum Release: The Mess We Made

“It all started on The day of the Charleston Massacre.  The heinous events which occurred on June 17, 2015 pushed me over the edge.  I was overwhelmed with rage, hatred, confusion and disillusionment.  I had no place to put these feelings.  I had no idea how to process them.  In a selfish attempt to maintain my own sanity I did the only thing I could do — write about it. By Sunday, June 21, I had written 4 new songs and within ten days I had recorded the 8 songs that would become  The Mess We Made.”

He shared about the power of music and believe that Music is the weapon of the future. When the music is good, people are drawn to the music and the message is heard. He believes that our culture is supposed to reflect the time we live in but where are all the artist ? Why aren’t they commenting on our time ?
“There are good things about America and there are bad things about America as it is in any other place. America is a very racist place. Why would anyone want to go to a church and shoot a bunch of old people praying ? That is evil, just evil. The news of Charleston massacre was so terrible that I was sick, physically sick, afraid, upset and wrote these songs to take the poison out of my system. It was pure self therapy and music saved me. “
We also spoke on piracy and how nobody pays for music anymore, on Technology giving us access to information or disinformation filling people’s mind with hatred.
Presenting an interview with Tomas Doncker, musician from New York, USA.

Inviting Sponsors for Season 3 of FindingTheVoices

FindingTheVoices is a Talk show by Monica Ingudam presenting voices from different parts of the globe with the vision to promote and spread Inspiring, Educative, Empowering and Entertaining stories in the violence-torn landscape of Manipur, my native place in India.

I am on a mission to find voices, voices about Manipur highlighting on Inspiration, Education, Empowerment and Entertainment.  I believe that these stories will bring a change and create a positive image of Manipur and positive thinking to many individuals. I believe that these voices will definitely contribute to change the scenery of the conflict and violence-torn to peace and progress in our society.

We have received very positive feedback for the voices featured during Season 1 and Season 2. Particularly I am touched by the stories shared by our Guest Speakers and messages from the listeners on how the stories have left them inspired.

Juggling with my work, family and being a mother to 2 young kids, I found it extremely challenging to continue with the talk show with long weekends and many late nights of editing. We did have freelance team members helping for editing but because of the cost and infrastructure challenges, I ended up picking up. I felt that my editing compromised the quality of the productions. I have to admit that I did think of giving up at times, but it is the stories shared by our Guest Speakers and messages from our listeners that kept me going.

This year, I am seeking out to you to become a sponsor and fund this project for Season 3 (2016 – 2017) which will cover 52 Episodes for 1 year, with a release of 1 Episode weekly.  We appreciate any amount of contributions. This will help with our productions. You can contribute in person if you are in Imphal, Manipur or a direct bank transfer  or you can contribute online using the following link:

We will be sharing and including the pictures of sponsors in our videos of Season 3. Thank you for being a part of my journey of FindingTheVoices by making this your own. Thanks for all your support and keep tuning in at http://FindingTheVoices.com

Colors through your eyes

The whims and fancy of Amubi. I let him play knowing the woman could be shredded into pieces.

Colors through your eyes How would I know of the beauty of the vibrant green color of the bamboo leaves ? How would I know of the beautiful rich saffron color soil of the hill ? How would I know the beauty of the golden sun as it rises and sets? How would I know the beauty of flowers with colors ? I am color blind, I know “beautiful” and “colors” through your eyes and words, Otherwise it’s a mere black and white sight.
